Frustrated with my blood pressure already?!?
-
Ok, I'm really on the limb here with my blood and at my wits end! I had my daughter 6 weeks ago and ever since she was born my blood pressure was ranging 170/110 and below. I've never suffered from high blood pressure prior to pregnancy. Even through out my pregnancy my blood pressure was normal. My primary doctor ordered lab work and a urinalysis which everything came back normal. He thinks it's hormones and my body trying to adjust to not being pregnant anymore. He prescribed me 12.5mg of Lisinopril which brought my blood pressure too normal. He took me off of the med because I was feeling dizzy and nervous which he said the med was making my blood pressure too low. It's been a week now that I'm off the meds. I feel great! But, I am under a lot of stress due to being mother to 4 and I suffer from panic attacks. The doctor just wants me to take a pill if my blood pressure becomes too high but if it's not too high I need to wait it out. So, today I've been monitoring my readings and here's what I got..... 129/92 Pulse 62 129/89 Pulse 59 128/95 Pulse 65 133/88 Pulse 61 126/83 Pulse 54 124/76 Pulse 55 I'm very frustrated on why it doesn't want to come down to my pre pregnancy blood pressure? I don't want to get back on the meds due the side effects. Is this a postpartum issue? I'm confused and need some insight. By the way I'm 28 years old, 5'5 and I weigh 130. I don't smoke or drink. Thanks!

Answer:
The increase in Blood pressure (Hypertension) during pregnancy, known as Pre-eclampsia, is pretty common condition and a lot of women suffer from it (about 5-8% of pregnant women in US). The good news is that the blood pressure comes back to normal after delivery because it's the placenta which is responsible for the high blood pressures. Once the placenta is out, the Blood pressure comes back to normal. The Blood pressure readings that you gave are normal. In one reading though (129/92) there seems to be a marginal increase but that doesn't mean that you have any hypertension problem. Anxiety and stress also tends to increase little bit of Blood pressure which seems to be the problem in your case. All you need is Anxiolytic Medication. My advise is that you should consult a Psychiatrist for your panic attacks/anxiety. It definitely will help.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.
