How to a job interview?

How did my job interview go?

  • I had a job interview this morning at a tv news station. I showed up early. The interviewer took me to his office and told me to have a seat. Then he asked me my first question. He asked if I knew what the job I applied for entails. I couldn't remember what the job description said and I started to get flustered so I told him that I know what the website said but if there were any details that weren't listed. He answered that question. Then he asked about my skills which I told him. He then said that if the position were available, when would i be able to start. i told him "immediately". After a little over 10 minutes he thanked me and I asked him for a business card and he walked me to the exit. I can't tell if I just had a good interview or a bad interview. I sent him a thank you email as soon as I left the building from my iPhone. Do I stand a chance of getting this job or should I keep looking? Did I pass or fail this interview? I'm confused because it didn't take long at all.

  • Answer:

A 10 minute interview is a bad interview. I would wager a very large amount of money that you did not get the job. Be more prepared next time - review the job description as well as do research about the company before the interview.

I would be less concerned about the time it took and more concerned if he didn't ask you for a follow up interview immediately and/or send you an email or give you a phone call soon after about the job. During the last interview I had in which I got a job, they were asking me about what I needed to do to start when it was over and were asking me to come in for a follow up before I was hired. Next time, make sure you know the full name of your interviewer and everything about the job before you go in. Make sure that you use his last name often in the form of "Mr.Smith" and talk about your ability to do each task related to the job.
