Becoming a professional dancer without lessons?

For break dancing and street dance there are a scant few. Not for jazz or modern because jazz is based off of ballet but just not done turned out and modern has several codified styles that are based on a strict discipline. To be honest, most of the dancers you see in music videos are not only trained dancers but have a ton of ballet in their training. Anything less than 15 hours of technique classes a week is considered recreational training. You should also know that only 10% of the BEST trained dancers get work and only 10% of them can make a living at it. Are there the occasional "freaks" of dance like Michael Jackson who actually did have some dance training but not a lot? Yes, but how many Michael Jacksons are there out there? For example, Kyle Robinson dances back up for Kelly Clarkson and is a grad of Juilliard. Ellenore Scott (SYTYCD season 6, 4th place) trained at Alvin Ailey and LaGuardia Arts High School (the FAME school) dances back up for Janet Jackson. Both dancers have tons of ballet in their arsenal. It isn't realistic to think that you can do this. It isn't even realistic that most people that take a ton of dance lessons will become professional dancers either. You have to be born with the body, facility and musicality that is required for a dance career and if you don't have it, all the training in the world wont change that. What also holds true is even if you have a lot of natural ability, without technique for training, which includes the ability to pick up new steps at lighting fast speed, you wont get work either. You really do need both.

I can only see this realistically possible in the past. Hip hop and break dance are becoming new styles of dance and I could possibly see some self taught dancers. Jazz and modern however I don't think they could have no training. Jazz and modern are both heavily based off of ballet. Most professional dancers are trained by a studio that has had dancers succeed and had the teachers succeed as dancers as well.
