Acrylic or Glass sump?

If the sump is acrylic, buy acrylic. If glass, buy glass. That way you are sure to use the glue or silicon needed; it is easier to bond glass to glass and acrylic to acrylic, instead of acrylic to glass. I always use old or broken tanks and cut out the pieces I need (you cannot cut the bottom of most glass tanks but the sides are usually not tempered and easy to cut with a glass cutting tool), but you can get glass at any glass store (places that do windows are a good location). I get my acrylic from a local plastic place. Check your yellow pages. I get acrylic from Tripp Plastic which is not far from my house, and often they have scrap plastic for cheap/free that works well for little sump projects. i use a band saw to cut acrylic as it is the most accessable tool in my garage and works well. Many home supply stores will have glass or acrylic as well, just make sure it is thick enough not to easily bend or break on you in the sump.
