Can I use my computer's hard drive in my ps3?

How do i use my old ps3 hard drive again? Sent it in for repair.?

  • I sent my original ps3 CECHA01 model in to be refurbished thanks to the YLOD. I was told to keep the hard drive because a step they do at the repair center is to wipe the hard drive. I just got the ps3 back and tried using my hard drive which i was using before. It said i needed to format everything. I decided i didnt want that and so i removed it and put back in the factory default hard drive. But now i dont know how to get my hard drive with all my saves and games on it to work in my ps3 again. Does anyone know what i should do? Please god say it aint so, can someone please confirm this so i know im not seeing things lol. The reason i didnt send in my HDD was because the tech support/customer support representative told me to take it out because they will wipe my hard drive as part of the routine procedure. Man they are gonna get an earful and i want a refund on my repair! :''(

  • Answer:

You are out of luck because they sent you someone else's refurbished PS3--not your original. (This is a common practice.) If it was your original PS3 it would recognize your HDD and not ask to reformat it. Any PS3 you would install your HDD in would ask you to format it except the original PS3 it was encrypted to. You are going to have to reformat your HDD if you want to use it again. What you should have done (and should do in the future) is back up your data--frequently--to an external device, because at least you could have salvaged some of your data. As of now it's all unrecoverable. Sorry man. * No need to extend the question, I'm telling you the truth man. The people they have working there aren't qualified to milk cows. In theory what they told you would be a good idea, if they actually sent people back their original PS3's, but they don't. It's more cost effective to just ship you someone else's refurbished unit. That's why I'm always telling people to back up their data to an external device. Most data would be able to be restored. The good thing is you can still access your old account with your trophies and your friends list (if that matters). You can also download most of your purchased DLC again, for free. Movies are one time only downloads.
