Why does my hamster keep falling asleep randomly?

How long until my hamster delivers?

  • This is my first time breeding hamsters, and yes, I did do some research. But I'm still wondering how long until the babies are born? I saw them 'in action' about a month ago. Now, her stomache is big. Her nipples are also noticeable. She is building a nest and is being aggressive towards the male. I already bought another cage to keep the male and female seperated. She is eating a lot as well. Her abdomen sides are also gaining weight, along with the rest of her body. If you get her from a side view, you can see her belly. She walks slower now too and doesn't run on her wheel as much as she used to. She rests a lot more, but sometimes becomes very fidgety and hyper in the night and bites everything and climbs on the roof and all! Sometimes, I get worried of her falling from her ceiling, but I don't think there's anything I can do to prevent that. So how much longer do you think it will be? Could it be any day now? Or is it still going to be like another week or so? She's a Teddy Bear Hamster by the way.

  • Answer:

Either your math is off or you need to get her to a vet IMMEDIATELY. Syrian (aka teddy bear) hamsters are only pregnant for a little over 2 weeks (~16 days). Three weeks would be a very long, but potentially okay pregnancy. If your hamster has been actually been pregnant for a month, there's probably something wrong.

I don't know much about breeding but when you saw them mating she might not of got pregnant then but maybe like a week later they mated when you didn't see. And why on earth have you got two syrian hamsters in the same cagee! If you researched you would know syrians will fight until death if in the same cage, although dwarfs can be in the same cage SYRIANS LIVE ON THEIR OWN in the wild they live alone in a cage they live alone they will kill eachother! I'm not trying to be mean but you need to know that!
