What will it take to become a game designer?

I have a whole galaxy in my mind. I hope someday I could use them in a game I wish to make, but my question is what is the likely hood of this happening because I fear it is not as easy as it is. Becoming a game designer isn't easy, but what will it take to run your own company? will I have to join a company and hand over my idea's to them or vise versa? please help I worry for my future career

I would say go to college for it, unless you're only planning to make small based games in game maker or something. Otherwise, go to college.. do VERY good in math because you'll need to know that. Also having a great memory helps. :)
