How much does chain link fencing cost?

How much would fencing four acres cost?

  • I need fencing for a great amount of dogs and was wondering how much it would cost to build a 15 foot fence on 4 acres(1680 ft) of land. I know a lot of factors go into this, but i need a rough estimate on how much it would be. I am looking for chain link but if there is something cheaper that has better durability, let me know. I have a dog who can climb my 10 foot fence right now so i need a high fence or fence with something at the top to keep dogs from climbing/jumping. All help and tips are appreciated. Thanks!

  • Answer:

One of my dogs was climbing out of a 54 in high fence . I bought a fence charger and strung a hot wire around the yard about a foot away from the fence and about a foot and a half high . Problem solved and cost about 150 bucks . Now my dogs stay safe .

Most places probably won't let you put up a 15 foot high fence. There are things called coyote rollers that can be put on top of a shorter fence, which are supposed to prevent coyotes from getting in but will just as well keep a dog from getting out. Also, if your dog climbs, it's not the height of the fence that matters so much, but whether or not it's climbable. If he can climb 10 feet, what's to stop him trying for another 5 feet? The fall from the other side might injure him, but he's not thinking that far ahead. Chain link is very climbable by any dog that can get its paws in the gaps, but a fence with vertical boards probably wouldn't be, and they can make fences that slant inwards at the top so an animal can't get a grip with enough feet to get over the top. The first poster's suggestion of an electric fence is well worth considering too. Chain link is about as durable as fencing gets.
