Mermaid (not the little mermaid) themed bday party for 2 yr old?
-
My daughter is turning 2 this summer. Does anyone have any clever ideas for a mermaid themed pool party? I'm trying to stay away from the traditional little mermaid theme. I've seen some hello kitty mermaid balloons, but haven't settled on that. Thought about having shrimp cocktail, tunafish and chicken salad sandwiches and goldfish crackers in assorted, colorful dishes. Any clever ideas would be much appreciated :) thanks! Xo

Answer:
Get creative and "punny" with food names..Anything ocean-related makes a great catch of the day for this party: peanut butter and jellyfish, potato boats, or shell pasta sprinkled with "sand" (grated Parmesan). Serve with blue Gatorade and Goldfish crackers. For dessert? A bowl of blue Jell-O and gummy fish, and a mermaid cake. In fact, Google "mermaid party familyfun" you will pull up a few choices....see the familyfun site...they also have excellent idea for a mermaid cake and how to make a kind of lagoon with fish, streamers, a sheet, a treasure chest, etc. Although one particular party favors 8-yr olds, just adapt the menu, cake, ideas for decoration. A game can be a mini version of a treasure hunt (which they explain how to do that)...or pin the flipper on the Mermaid....or have small paper fish to "tape" on and do "tape the fish on the mermaid" as she's holding out her hand. (What's the shrimp cocktail for...the adults I hope, not the kids). Hang up a sign..." Nice to SEA you!" (kids too young to get it, but parents will appreciate the humor ;D). btw...that familyfun site is by Disney (but the party ideas are varied, not necessarily Little Mermaid)..excellent site to keep bookmarked when you have kids. We hosted an Under the Sea party for kids from 1 to 6 years old. Here are some things we did. Made fish out of paper plates. Painted them blue and attached streamers for their tails. The plates were hung from the outdoor patio umbrella poles and extra's were made and attached to dowels. Each child had their own colorful fish and paraded around the pool to the song, Under the Sea - but you could choose a different song. Here are some pictures so you can get the idea: http://www.poolfunforeveryone.com/under-the-sea-party.html
