Is there a way to connect home theater speakers to T.V?

How to have Apple TV Audio on my Home Theater System?

  • I have Apple TV which is connected to my TV by HDMI but I was wondering how I can have my home theater system play sound instead of my TV... My home theater has only one HDMI slot which I am using to connect it to the TV for watching movies etc... Is there any way of making the audio from Apple TV play on my home theater speakers? If there is, what do I need to do? My home theater does not have optical wires or anything..

  • Answer:

It all depends on the type of home theater speakers you have. I am assuming they are setup up to some type of receiver or amplifier. The easiest way to do it, would be connecting the Apple TV to your television with the HDMI cable, like you were doing. You should also have a "TV audio out" on the back of your TV. You can then connect this to your speaker receiver. Now, depending on what kind of inputs you have, I am assuming if you don't have an optical input, you would have a coaxial or analog. Traditionally, most receivers will at least have coaxial. From there you can run an optical cable through a optical/coaxial converter. It basically works as a splitter so you can use a different input for the same cable. They are pretty affordable and you can buy them on Amazon. It may also be time to upgrade you multimedia system. Check out Kanto Speakers. They have a product called the YARO which is made specifically for the Apple TV.

the hdmi connection you have only goes 1 way. you need to connect the tv's audio output to an audio input on the system with the speakers.
