Is DVR recording on the wrong TV?

Can you watch live tv while recording a show using the DVR on Dish Network?

  • I recently made the switch over to Dish Network (not my choice) and always had a dvr. Well Dish networks DVR likes to switch over to the show i am recording when i am currently watching live tv. My first question is why in the world would i record something if i have no choice but to watch it and miss the other show? My second question is there a way to watch live tv while recording a show?

Hi Ryan, I am sorry if the DISH DVR is causing a recording issue in your home. All the remotes have a "Swap" button on the bottom left hand side which will allow the receiver in single mode to switch between the two satellite input feeds on the receiver. All DISH receivers come with a record plus feature which when enabled will default the recording to a specific input (TV1 or TV2), and most receivers default to TV2 recording. These setting can be changed to default the system in a way that makes it easiest for you. If you would like to email me with your receiver model number, how many TV's are connected to the receiver, and where your Tv is located and I can assist you further with getting the system working for you. bring up the timer menu screen,( any program will do ),,,now select the "options" icon and set your start early and end late to 0 also check the "save as system default" box, do this at tv1 and tv2. ..right now your scheduled recordings are over lapping, thus changing the channel you are viewing, did your installer not give you an owners manual ? because there are plenty more options im guessing you dont know about right there in your owners manual
