Cheerleading tips and help?

Cheerleading tips? Tricks? Any help?

  • Ok so i come from a really small school. 350 kids at most for grades pre k-12. Anyways i really want to become a cheerleader next yr because im very outgoing and cheerful and friendly. However i cant do the splits and im currently working on my kicks. I used to be flexible, but as yrs went on ive lost it. I also want to be it because i want to be an influence to people. Do yall have any tips or anything? Help? Im also 14. But freshmen have became cheerleaders before.

You can so make it! Work on getting your splits. Those are very important. Without them, you are not going to be able to do jumps. I suggest practicing motion drills because they can feel awkward at first so get use to them(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPIkECZ0mrQ&feature=related). Work on back flexibility to start a base for learning to tumble in the future. You don't need to tumble right away. Do a couple of bridges most days. Bridges are when you lay on your back and lift up with your hands. Youtube works for that too. When you get that down pretty well. Try doing backbends. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD-zzzB8gOA) A trick for those is to stand in front of a wall and climb down backwords, of course. Again youtube is excellent for these! And when you feel like you've gotton some decent flexibility, try out jumps. Best of luck!
