What is the best video camera for short films?

  • I'm planning on making some amateur short films and I want either a really good video camera, or a really good camera that films as well. I know it's more practical to get a camera that includes filming rather than a video camera that just films but quality matters over "quantity" for me right now. Also, I'm looking for something under $700. I know that's pretty low, but I don't have enough money right now to be splurging on something too nice unfortunately. So, what is a good CAMERA or VIDEO CAMERA that has excellent filming quality and is a reasonable price? Thanks!

depends on how short the film. the camera for a 90 minute feature film weighs in at 60 pounds and take 2 people to lift onto a support pedestal. the camera for a 30 minute television episode would be 20 pounds and be shoulder mount. for a 3 minute youtube show you should look at 2 pounds hand held. there are lighter cameras but they would need to be limited to shorter programs. The general rule of thumb is 6 ounces per minute. prices normally go for market, but $200 per pound is about right.
