To work in the United Nations?
-
I would like to work in the United Nations in the future. I know it's very difficult to get a qualification to work there because of several factors. First of all, I can't speak English well. I can barely write English to some extent, but I can't speak well. Now I am practicing. Second, many people all around the world hope to work there, so I must compete with lots of promising people. I am Japanese and in Japan, I don't have to speak more than one language just to live a life. People in other regions, for example in European countries, can speak at least a few language easily, I heard. In terms of only languages, I fall behind other people. As I said, I know Working there is very difficult. Often I search for the information on the Internet about the United Nations and how to enter. I learned that one of the ways is to participate in Internship in the US. My major at school is English, so if I study English hard, I can get a chance to participate in the Internship. I would like to get some advice the United Nations. And I wonder which foreign language I should study as a second language. Before I wanted to study German, but I realized that German is not among the official languages. Should I study one of the official languages instead of German? If I used strange English in these sentences, I am sorry.

Answer:
First off, your English is pretty job so don't be so hard on yourself. And yes, if you want to work at the UN it would make sense to be able to speak one of the official languages. Apply for a job opening! But these positions are highly competitive so it would make sense to have other back up plans/ other careers or jobs you would apply for.
