How to practice singing?

Singing ? How much to practice?

  • I currently have a singing teacher and I want to become a professional singer. I’m 14 now and I’ve only had singing lessons for a year. I’m not sure how much to practice if I want to become a professional singer. And will practicing a lot strain my voice? How to practice long hours without damaging the voice? Thank you.

  • Answer:

If you are singing the correct way as your voice instructor has taught you you should be able to practice for an hour at a time. Remember that professional singers put on sets of an hour at a time with a 20 minute break for bands. Ask your instructor to make you a warm up CD of the scales. By correct I mean to breathe in through your nose and mouth and change NOTHING. If you do this correctly you should always be on key. This will also keep you from hurting your vocal chords. Mouth and jaw should be relaxed and open wide. You should learn placement of notes inside your head BEFORE using the force of singing from your diaphram.

Well singing a lot won't damage your voice. You do need to make sure you breath from your diaphragm and not you shoulders or else it will hurt your voice. If it ever hurts to sing take a brake from singing so you don't strain your voice. You can sing as much as you want. I want to be on broadway ever since I was 7 and I'm 13 now and I go to an arts school so it really lets me learn everything I need to know.

Drink tea, don't yell and keep your neck warm with a scarf or something in the winter. Practising won't damage your vocals. The only thing that'll damage your vocals is you if you don't listen carefully and make sure you are singing right. Try to stay away from artists who sing from their throat or whatever, you can easily adapt to their style and it WILL damage your vocals and singing ability.
