How Can i prepare For a job in the Video game Industry?

How do i actually get a job in the video game industry?

  • Video games are my passion, i love to play them. I just love everything about video games and want to learn how to create them. Im in 9th grade right now and i want to know what classes i should take to learn what i need to know. The only technology classes i am taking right now are web design and DDP (Drawing and design for production). Im learning a little bit of flash in web com which is cool, but i really want to know exactly what i need to learn to get into video gaming industry. So please someone help me with what i need to know, i just know that is what i want to do when im older and what i love.

  • Answer:

Are you sure? 9th grade? Computer Science and Mathematics plus, for sure, Biometrics and Human Kinetics and possibly Laser Technology, for the most productive years of your life. Video Games will change, a lot. Good luck! PS. What about Video Game Tester? This should be like drinking water on the spring and getting a hell of the money too. Video Games are following money and money is being given by people who plays., there's no way for human tester to be replaced- ever, especially not in the future when games will interact with our bodies, a lot more.

This is a very common question in these forums -- use search to read a bunch of answers. But here's one suggestion: game production studios want to hire people who love video games about as much as candy stores want to hire people who love to eat candy. They would much prefer to hire people who love to create video games, not play them. You need to create a portfolio that proves that.

You are far in between but starting with passion is probably a good first step. Game creation does not actually starts with art and design but with hard core computer programming. The design is a minor obstacle. Gaming programming is quite challenging and tough to get into for a beginner programmer so you will probably have to be pretty good with math or physics and get into computer science.

Study computer science and mathematics. Nobody here knows any of the specific courses available to you, so you won't get exact courses to take. However, take as many computer science and math courses that you can in high school; the more advanced the better. Go to the best college you can get into/afford. Start building your own simple games; these are great to attach to a resume.
