Right shoulder pain while breathing in?

Chest and shoulder pain? medical professionals preferred please?

  • was just sitting here minding my business when all of a sudden i got a sharp stabbing pain in my lower right chest cavity. it feels like its on the surface. normally i just stretch out a bit and it goes away, but when i tried to stretch, my right shoulder suddenly got the same pain. it's located towards the front of my shoulder; it feels like it's in the little pack of muscle (deltoid?) on the front of my shoulder joint. now if i breathe in deeply, or exhale fully, both stabbing pains are felt. breathing in between these extremes results in no pain. i have had one spontaneous pneumothorax in my left lung a few years ago (4 or 5), and was told then that i had a higher chance of a repeat incident. i can't go see a doctor at this hour so i'm about to go to sleep to see how i feel tomorrow but any input would be appreciated. thanks!

  • Answer:

stabbing pains which are made worse with inspiration/expiration tend to signify a problem located in the mid back region, where the vertebra joins onto the rib (costo-transverse joint) try lying onthe ground and leaning onto a tennis ball - that is, once you've found 'the spot'
