How can I get job in France?

How can I get a job in France as an American emmigrant?

  • Answer:

It would be easier to get a Green Card in the USA than it is to get a work visa in France. If you are not from an EU/ Schengen country, it is just about impossible to think of working in France.

You want to teach French in France? I sincerely doubt there is a need. European union rules prohibit Americans from getting a work visa there unless they have a skill that none of the 130,000,000 unemployed Europeans can do! Not a chance. Can't you find a job teaching French, ir interpreting in the U.S.?

If you want a job as a teacher in the French system you would need to take French in a French university because you can't be a French teacher without having your CAPES Lettres Modernes. It is a competitive examination with only the first 800 being taken. If you are the 801st tough luck, you have failed. And to be accepted to take the Capes exam you need a Master in French (a local Master) or having taught for three years in the French system. Catch 22. Don't be dismayed. French being our native language you would have needed to teach grammar and spelling to young children who already speak the language fluently so with a totally different teaching technic than when you teach French to foreigners. Can you explain l'accord du participe passé des verbes pronominaux or les propositions indépendante, principale et subordonnée? Or can you teach older kids to develop ideas and write endless rédactions and explications de textes and in-depth studies of the French Masters (Rabelais, Voltaire, Sartre, just to name a few of the older ones) and to ready them for their baccalauréat by teaching them to get their ideas in order and use introduction, corps du sujet, conclusion, or thèse, antithèse et synthèse (gah, the awful memories!!!). If you mean being a French teacher for foreigners, then you are on your own there. You can't just go to France and put out ads in the paper as you need a work visa to stay in France and without it you become an illegal immigrant. To get an official job you need to contact a foreign school for expatriate kids, convince them to hire you, and only then can you ask for a work visa.
