What is Toulouse, France like?

What are some tourist attractions/things to do in Toulouse, France?

  • Answer:

Toulouse is a large city, the fourth in size in France. It has a bustling centre surrounding a particularly fine cathedral which is very unusual in style, a remarkable art museum in what was an ancient monastery which houses one of the loveliest medieval coloured stone statue of a smiling madonna and child I have ever seen, and many other places of interest. The town hall has superbly decorated rooms. There also are a number of very fine renaissance town houses with interesting inner courtyards, and also imposing 18th century mansions on the banks of the stately Garonne river. It was nicknamed "Toulouse la rose" because the majority of the old buddings were built of local brick which has a dark pink hue. The university is also at the heart of the city so there are lots of bookshops and small cafes patronised by students. It enjoys a large variety of shops that sell quality goods, art galleries and other museums. It is the centre of the French aerospace industry and it is possible to go and see one of the famous Concorde planes there. It would take too long to go into further details but you can read more about the other places of interest on this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toulouse and you can see lots of photos on here: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/LocationPhotos-g187175-w2-Toulouse_Midi_Pyrenees.html
