What is the difference between a child care worker and a teacher?

A child care worker does not usually need to have a college degree in education and is not always required to plan lessons. A teacher must have a college degree and be certified by the state in which he/she is working. Good luck to you!

It all depends on where you apply. I technically am a child care worker but I have a degree and unlike the other poster said, I plan lessons and then implement them. Some child care centers really are just babysitting services, but there are others that understand the importance of early education and how important it is to run a program with high qualified individuals.

An early childhood teacher DOES work with the children, as does a childcare worker. The biggest difference is probably money. A "teacher" should have a degree, and that degree makes him/her eligible for the higher paying positions, like "teacher", and qualifies that person for work in higher quality programs for better money. Right now, the economy is not so good, so many who are qualified to work at the elementary school level or higher are layed off from those positions and working in early childhood settings. I think early childhood jobs are way more enjoyable, but many of those people will return to other settings if the economy improves and funding is returned to education. You can choose from either child care worked or teacher positions, but I would suggest getting that degree anyway because you may find that you prefer the teacher positions and that way you would be qualified if one of those positions is available.
