Does anyone know of any summer horse camps in the midwest?

Working in USA summer camps as a camp counselor ?

  • I have been searching for summer job and I have a wish to work one day in USA so I have found something interesting on the internet. I have found a website for my country that offers summer jobs in USA. ( I come from Slovenia - Europe). I saw an interesting job to work in summer camps as a camp counselor (CCUSA ) http://www.ccusa.com/ Well all I wanna know is if anyone have been in any of camps in USA as a camp counselor (CCUSA ) this is a program for students from many nations to come in the USA and experience the culture and work in the USA. I want to ask you something: I am probably going in one of those camps next year (I am going to be 19 years old by then) and as you know you must teach different activities there (football, soccer, volleyball, horse riding, archery, cooking, ......) I have some experience with soccer witch I have been playing for 4 years and I also have a little scouting experience from my country but I have never been in Traditional summer Program Camps before and I have never been in USA...... What would you suggest to me and if you have any experience with this please tell me. Thanks for answering!

  • Answer:

I worked at a summer camp where many counsellors had been brought over from Europe by groups like CCUSA. I don't know CCUSA specifically, so I don't know if they're okay; but many such programs exist. You don't necessarily need to know how to do every single thing taught at a summer camp, and you do not need any camp experience. You could be a general counsellor, or at some camps, you could focus on soccer/football. Usually, for specialized skills like horseback riding, the camp will hire experienced staff, just for that; so you won't normally have to teach such things. The scouting experience will help you. When you work at a summer camp, you don't tend to get much time off during the week. What most foreign camp workers do is make sure to plan in time for travel after their work at the camp is done. For example, before or after your camp, plan in some weeks where you can simply travel around the US. In fact, if you have some time to travel after the camp is done, many foreign camp workers get together and travel around together.

I think you have to be 18 to work in US summer camps. The only other thing I could suggest is to go online. Good Luck!
