Do you HAVE to be skinny to be a flight attendant?
-
I'm considering being a flight attendant, as a carrer option in the future, i'm only 15 now and i'v got lots of time to lose weight, i'm kind of "large" as it is (5 fott 10 inches 200 lb.s) but is it required to be skinny to be a flight attendant. Some people have told me you have to have the perfect skinny body and be "hot" and others have told my it does'nt matter. Whats the truth?

Answer:

No, however "weight proportional to height" is how the mantra goes. You're about 25 lbs outside what is considered the maximum healthy weight for your height. See this chart: http://www.disabled-world.com/artman/publish/height_weight.shtml While appearance and image is part of the equation, the airlines are equally concerned about employee health issues, and health problems are far more prevalent and develop at an earlier age among people who are overweight or underweight than those of a "normal" weight for their height and gender. FACT.

The "hot" part is completely irrelevant ignore that part, however you are extremely overweight for that position, think this way "Why would I hire you when I can hire another girl without weights problems?" You need to take advantage of everything, according to the BMI you should weight 160 lb to be on a very nice shape, so lets start to loose that extra 40!!

Hey Brit, the point is, you have time to prepare for the position. This is the perfect time to find out about all of the requirements and align yourselves with them. I applaud you for your dedication. I think you'll be a great flight attendant!
