  • Answer:

First of all I've always felt the smaller players have an advantage in Rugby Union. Don't cut yourself short (excuse the pun) As a 6'2 230lb Lock, I've always had the most trouble with the smaller players. Having a lower center of gravity makes it easier for you to get low and make the tackle. Don't worry about smashing players with huge New Zealand All Black tackles. All you need to do is latch on to your opponent and become almost like an anchor on them.Chances are they will trip up or slow down dramatically, giving your team mates enough time to make it to the "break down" and support you. Everyone has this idea of the bone crushing hit that sends your opponent back 3 meters, but those kind of hits take an incredible amount of strength, training and technique to preform. Imagine your holding a red cape, and a bull is barreling toward you, don't try to stop him by smashing him head on, let him run through the cape and jump on him as he runs past. like in the loony toones lol. Now apply that same scenario to a big monster forward barreling towards you. Get him low around the legs as he runs by... he will go down...

Technique, stay low, tackle their legs. If you can get hold of one, that's good, if you can get both that's better. If you can drive into their midsection with your shoulder and lift one of their legs as well, that's best

Wrap your arms around both of their legs (above the knees) and push forward while lifting. That is a common tackling technique used in American Football.

It's called a "form tackle." Your shoulder goes into their stomache, your arms go around their legs. If you do it properly, the ball carrier goes down. Size and weight are irrelevant.

i'm only 5'9" and around 193lbs so getting low down is the best way to take a giant down i always tackle around the knee or thigh area because once you've got there legs the only way the go is down just remember to hold on tight and pretend its a life or death situation and 90 odd % of the time they will fall omly thoughs who have trained to get out of it will but its very very unlikly they will

Peter

You hit them low. As they say, you can't run without legs.

Go in low and use your shoulder. Look up gregan tackles Wilson on YouTube to see a great example
