If you aren't concerned with name brand but don't want off the shelf, walmart or target clubs take a look at GigaGolf.com. They will build you a set customized to your height and wrist to floor measurement which will determine if the standard club length and lie angle should be adjusted. The prices are insanely cheap for what you get. I just purchased a set of custom built irons (5 - PW) for $127. You can upgrade the shaft and grips, they have tons of different options for just about everything. Oh, and you can play with them for 30 days and return them if you don't like them. For the money it seems the best option for people in our situation, new to golf and want good equipment but not for the price of a new set of pings.
