How do you get paint out of carpet?

How do you get acrylic paint out of carpet?

  • Answer:

First of all, you've got to keep that carpet WET (water only). Once you let it dry, all bets are off and there is no hope of removing it without cutting it out. Back to that in a minute. You undoubtedly have already scooped up all the paint you can. So, keep it damp and keep working on it. This is not going to be easy and you may be stuck. Ideally, you will want to have a bunch of white rags at your side. See if you can find a little brush that you clean fingernails with. They are small and soft and won't disrupt the carpet fibers too awfully much. Keep gently scrubbing and then working your damp white rags (or washcloths) into the paint to remove it little by little. Rub a bar of Fels Naptha on it and scrub that around some with the brush -- it works wonders. If you have to go to the store to buy a bar, you will find it in the laundry detergent area--but cover the paint on rug area with a wet towel while you run out. Remember: do not let it dry out. Ok, if none of this works, confess to your mom and she can have someone come in and clean it, but they will only have success if you keep that sucker damp for them! Last resort: Carefully cut out what you can't wash out, using CUTICLE scissors. Do not substitute regular scissors. I feel for you!
