Can acid reflux make you throw up?

  • My doctor prescribed me pills for acid reflux and she said to take them when I needed them. I used them for awhile but then I really didn't need them so I stopped, but now whenever I eat my abdomen or whatever the soft area is in the center under my ribs well kind of in between the ribs hopefully you know what I'm talking about, but yeah that area it feels like its pushing upward and I end up throwing up whatever I just ate. Can acid reflux make you throw up like that?

    Yes it can! I used to get it bad during pregnancy, and often just the slight "taste" of stomach acid had me vomiting, even with medication... but even if it's not making you gag, it could create enough pressure to cause the vomiting.

Normally, from acid reflux you'd throw up acid, if your throwing up food..that might be a problem.

I have the same problem, and it can make me throw up it depends on what I eat or drink. I love coke and pepsi, but I have to watch drinking that cause that can make me throw up. It sucks cause foods I use to be able to eat before well burn inside and me me vomit. I got prescribed Ranitidine for my acid reflux.

Yes, sounds like a possible hiatal hernia. Very common. Usually otc Prilosec or Zantac will help. See ur doc. OTC Prilosec and zantac can be taken once or twice a day, but it's best to see your doctor first to rule out anything else.You may just have heartburn due to age or foods you eat. Only ur doctor can tell you.
