Moving in with family on housing benefits, I claim DLA, will it affect their housing benefits?

Answer:
As an 18 year old your moving in will have an impact on any benefits the family claim and your moving in needs to be declared to the benefits department. As for DLA it is a benefit for those with disabilities not for those who don't feel fit enough to work. If your doctor thinks you are too ill to work they will give you a certificate and you can apply for Employment Support Allowance and a decision will be made.

I expect it will..you don't say much about your situation re. D.L.A. ...but if one of the people you're moving in with is to be your carer this will make a difference...if you are claiming money for housing their claim will have to be reassessed..you need to get expert advice on all this...go to the C.A.B. and get them to help you..it's unlikely you'll get awarded D.L.A. as this is ending soon...it'll be P.I.P....so you do need to get advice.

As an 18 year old you are an adult and will be expected to contribute towards the rent of the property you are moving into so yes any 'Housing Benefit' being paid will be affected, i.e. your perceived share will be deducted from the benefit awarded.

Your DLA is not a means tested benefit so will Not BE EFFECTED. it depends on what benefits the others in the house a claiming though
