It is less dangerous (lower speed) and you will learn all the basic skill you need Go to a local race track and get a try to get pit pass. Some might ask you to take a course first. You won't get into a race right away. A decent used racing kart is going to cost you $2000-3000, plus another $500 or so for the required safety gear, and another couple hundred for some tools, a starter, and a kart stand.
