Hey people read this?

How do you people read so much?

  • I know it's such a stupid excuse but i have problem with starting to read a book. I really really should read because I;m 16 but I only read about 5 books for past 3 years.. I know i should read!! I should!!!! But i just have hard time at the beginning. Also im in hurry because as i told you i haven't read many books at all. and i am realizing that i am becoming sort of the slow kid? in my class and i feel so awful. I should read!! I have to read so that i can improve my grammar and other stuffs. Any tips for me to become a Bookworm?? (I love watching television sitcoms and dramas that's probably why i didn't read much. I always watch them whenever i have free time.)

The first step is to choose the right books. To start off with, you should choose books that seem really interesting to you. Something that will keep your interest. If you post here what types of shows you like, it's likely someone can recommend some books that are similar. I'd even suggest starting with books of a little bit lower difficulty so you don't get discouraged. Then it's up to you. Turn the TV and the computer off, set yourself up in a comfortable place with a snack and a drink handy. Try not to choose a time to read when you're tired or sluggish since reading a book is likely to compound fatigue. Give a book about 20 pages before you give up on it. Give up on *that* book, not on reading entirely. Choose another book and start over. Read magazines, read manga, read a newspaper, read comic books. It really doesn't matter, just read something. Of my 4 kids, 3 were born bookworms. The 4th, at 15, didn't care for reading, said it was boring, she'd rather watch TV. I gave her The Hunger Games and forced her to sit for an hour and read. She complied, finished the book the following day and has been a bookworm since. She's reading about 3 books a month now. However, I still search out books that she might like. I pick them up at the library, some she reads, some she's not interested in. She was making mostly C's in school and is now making A's and B's. Reading in her spare time is the only thing she's doing differently. It is definitely worth it to make a serious effort.

I'm a very picky reader. I've read hundreds, but choose the books a bit carefully. Kind of a snob actually, but whatever. The thing is you read ought to be reading what you want to read. Don't just pick up a book because its what everyone else in your class is reading. Do you "want" to read, or do you just feel like you "should"? You probably won't feel any better if you ever do finish reading a book all for the reason of having actually finished a book.

Had the same problem, so i turned to comics and Manga, then i found that starting a book was the hardest for me so sometimes i skip the first few chapters of a book and i go on reading then if i really want to know what happened i go back and start at the beginning, thing about me, is if i start something, even if i hate it, i finish it.

I also love watching television sitcoms and dramas plus I listen to music 24/7 and on here most of the time but I still read almost every night before I go to sleep. Read a few pages before you go to sleep. I read like 150-200 pages if I can. Start with famous authors and books first from a genre you might like (they are famous for a reason... they are easy to get into for most people and hard to put down)

Read a book that you know you will enjoy. Choose the right genre for you! So for example, I know I won't be able to read a book if it doesn't have romance in it. Its just the way it is with me. I have no interest otherwise. So maybe its the same with you. Are you looking for comedy? horror? action? etc. Also, choose a book which has been given good recommendations. Go to a bookstore near you and ask for recommendations, or on barnes and noble, or the amazon website each book has a review section in it! read the reviews and use them to help you! I never used to enjoy reading, but once i got into it i couldn't put a book down! I became an addict! But don't worry if you don't read that much! not everyone enjoys it! Its a hobby! You might enjoy sports or art but others may not! its the same with reading!
