What are methods used to study meteorites?

Psychological Research Methods- What kind of study is this?

  • Hi! I have a big question. I am supposed to summarize a research report, but I am having problems determining what kind of study the research report is. QUICK OVERVIEW: The study used a behavioural approach task with 4 steps. First, the participants had to approach a spider in a cage starting at 12 feet away. Then they had to walk up to the cage. Then they had to guide the spider around the cage with an 8 inch probe. Then they had to guide it with a 5.5 inch probe. During those tasks, participants did a verbal self report on their fear, using a scale of 0-100. After they did the tasks, they filled out 3 self report questionairres, and lastly estimated the spiders size. Then the researchers used correlational methods to obtain the results from the data. There are so many components to this study that I am unsure as to what to call the method they used. It seems like a quasi-pseudo-experiment (they used people with spider phobia, and had no control group), but then they also used self reports to obtain correlational data. I'm just confused. Thank you!!! To explain further, I am presenting a published original research paper to my research methods class, and the objective is to look for confounds and artifacts within the research that the experimenter did not mention, which I have done. I am just asking for help in determining what kind of research method this particular paper is considered. I am not using this for "purpose of information extraction", as @fbtyor is assuming. For future reference, I am looking for intelligent answers that make sense. Please only reply if you know what you are talking about.

  • Answer:

This research is basically a psychological evaluation of people that suffer arachnophobia. Your 'quasi-pseudo experiment' would be the best way to describe it. One of the scopes was to evaluate the exaggerative figures That fear imposes on various individuals. The correlated data was broad in nature based on the reports. effectively, the greater the fear, the greater the exaggerated size of the spider. with the shorter probe, this exaggeration was more pronounced because of the closer proximity to the spider. I certainly gleaned information from this experiment because of my interest in arachnology, and helps give me a better understanding of arachnophobia. I am not a psychologist, but with my total lack of fear for spiders, I try to help those that do fear them.

No, you're wrong. You intend to use this psychological research for the purpose of information extraction. Don't make me laugh. The only interesting piece of 'info' that you get is the one that you're only interested in making up.
