How and where can I get my work history?

How do I get my work history in the last ten years the dates and years?

  • Answer:

Contact the IRS for your old filings. If you can't seem to get the months, you can also use the seasons instead. For example: Job 1 Fall 2008 - Spring 2010 Job 2 Spring 2005 - Fall 2008 etc.

Each employer should have given you a W-2 so you could file your taxes. Since they did that, you can get the names and address of employers off your tax returns. Hopefully you can find those. Once you have the tax returns in front of you for a particular year, you should be able to figure out the order in which you had the jobs. Once you have the order, you should have some clue as to how long you had each job. I assume by your question that you never worked any particular job for long. That will not make your resume very desirable.

You could call your former employers and ask them. Or dig in your files for old check stubs. But if you can't remember where you worked or when in the last 10 years, at least to the nearest month, I don't think I would want to hire you anyhow.

Dig out your old tax returns. That will show you who you worked for in each year.

You may be able to contact the IRS and ask for copies of your tax returns for the years you want.
