Are these salts basic/acid/or neutral? HELP PLEASE.?
-
So I have these salts and I tried to analyze them.. could you correct me? Because I know its wrong. Na(HOOCCOO): I assumed this is acidic because the Na is a spectator ion and the it would be HOOCCOO- which is acidic. NaHSO3: Na is a spectator ion and HSO3- is basic. RbCl: Rb doesn't react in water so I thought it would be neutral for Cl. NaHCOO: Na is a spectator and HCOO is basic. SrI2: Sr doesn't react in water so I assumed it would be neutral. But I'm wrong. Could you correct the ones that are wrong?

Answer:
Na(HOOCCOO): I assumed this is acidic because the Na is a spectator ion and the it would be HOOCCOO- which is acidic. OK NaHSO3: Na is a spectator ion and HSO3- is basic. What about HSO3- --> H+ + SO3 2- ?? So acidic RbCl: Rb doesn't react in water so I thought it would be neutral for Cl. OK but because it is a salt of a strong acid and strong base NaHCOO: Na is a spectator and HCOO is basic. Memory aid. Salt of strong base and weak acid, strong one wins so basic SrI2: Sr doesn't react in water so I assumed it would be neutral. Yes
