What's a good monologue for an audition?

Audition monologue with dialect?

  • I'm 16 and have an audition coming up that requires one comedic and one dramatic monologue (standard stuff). My dramatic monologue is Chekhov, so I want to do something more contemporary (I understand that different people have different views on whether he's contemporary or classical). I found one from Brighton Beach Memoirs that has a good contrast, but I don't have a perfect Brooklyn accent. Should I not do the monologue, work on the dialect, or keep that monologue but omit the dialect? If you think I should change it, do you have any suggestions for a comedic, contemporary monologue for a 15 year old girl? Thank you!

  • Answer:

I think, if you really like the monologue, you should work on the dialect because you can always omit the dialect in the end if it's not working for you.
