HELP!!What are some good books with little to no romance?Need a book FAST!!!?

I need a book for a class project. It MUST have at least 100 pages, be at Young Adult reading level, and have a story/plot that is told. There's also a small list of what books aren't allowed, example, no one in the same class can have the same book (Hunger Games and Harry Potter are taken and I think Mortal Instruments too).Point I need a book FAST! I guess you could call me a tomboy or so; I am almost as far from feminine as one can get. In other words, no chick-flick, mushy, romance, etc. I REALLY DON'T GIVE A CRAP about "but their love mustn't be", or "but it all changes when *insert guy name* comes along" or "can they ever resist the irresistable hottie hunk/babe that is ___", or "but which lover should I choose DX", or any other lame crap.I also don't care for "but what if she's not pretty enough for prom D: OH NO her world is crumbling" or "but she/I am TOO beautful,I don't want it take it back DX I mustn't be pretty!". If you noticed that "I" in there, yes the whole first person "Im going to brag about my sexy hotness and badassery" thing does NOT work for me; please no "I AM BEOWULF"s; no one likes Mary Sue/Gary Stu especially not one who's boasting away over 100 pages for NO reason (if its a journal sure maybe i guess but just wow, no); first person isn't an issue, it just depends on HOW it's done. I like Action/Adventure,Sci-Fi/Fantasy,Suspense... Humor. I also like mangas/animes (only read two mangas so far Air Gear and Soul Eater).Examples of some things I like are... Animes: Blood+,Air Gear,Devil May Cry,Soul Eater,D Gray Man,Yu Yu Hakusho,Black Lagoon, etc (all shonen/"guy's/tomboy's" based).Other Shows:Xena,Dark Angel,X-Men Evo,Smallville (when it was good/before it was about couples and Lois' feelings -.-), Heroes,Airbender,Dead Like Me,etc. Books:A Series of Unfortunate Events, Holes, HP,Lewis Carroll (anything),etc. Also I really like the whole "kick-butt" female thing, if there are any books with a female lead/female as the main character, those would be nice. However I noticed when mos t books have ONE character as lead they feel the "need" to have the "insert love interest/insert love triangle" cliche happen and to the point that it is also about of the main plot, while books that have groups tend to not really focus on such, either not have it or work into it gradually where its a subplot or barely there at all. Also while I don't mind some shows/movies based in the past (1800s and beyond), I don't really perfer to read about them. Basically:little to no romance (i know its hard to say 0 at all so I guess I'm willing to bare if its limited), NO chick-flick issues/girly problems (eg prom drama,not/too pretty, love triangles, etc), perferrably no pompus cocky ego-freak lead especially not if it's 1st person (stuck up,snooby, whiny,or any other universal annoyance lead characters dont work for me either). Also no faeries/fairies (idk I just dont care for it). Just 3-4 things really. Sorry this is so long and sorry if it seems picky. I've been looking for WEEKS (day and night) and I am SERIOUSLY running out of time.

Answer:
Picnic at Hanging Rock (book and movie) It's a little old school but is worth it. Set in 1900, on St Valentine's Day, the students of Appleyards School go for a picnic at Hanging Rock (a remnant of long extinct volcano in the Mt Macedon region in Australia). Four students go exploring on the rock against the rules. After a nap, three keep climbing and one runs screaming down the Rock. Subsequently a maths teacher also disappears. The book then deals with the aftermath of this.

While I would agree that Eragon (from the Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini) is a good book, it does actually have romance in it - especially nearing the end of the series. I'd say Skulduggery Pleasant, by Derek Landy, is really a good bet. It has humour, a "kick-butt female" character - this becomes more obvious near the end. It's actually really hard to put down after the first 3 chapters. :)

Try Sweetness at the bottom of the Pie by Ray Bradbury - best book I have read this year. See link below about the story.

Okay wow lol Mortal Instruments is very romance-filled so don't be sad about that not being available I'm kinda guessing Percy Jackson series is taken up by people too? if not it's Adventure/Humor and barely has any romance at all. I guess I'd recommend Ender's Game. My favorite book of all time, it's sci-fi and actually has NO romance. Serious book about a 6 year old boy recruited into a space program that trains military commanders for the next big alien-human war. It lacks in nothing, causes empathy like no other and is absolutely brilliant. You will not be disappointed. On a side-note, based on what you've provided, for anime I really recommend Vampire Knight (only 26 episodes in both seasons) and FMA Brotherhood (the new series). TV show: The Vampire Diaries (best teen drama on tv right now). Too bad they didn't renew Heroes. Good luck with your project! I hope you have fun with it! :D

I feel the same way you do about romance and drama in books. Tamsin, by Peter S. Beagle, has a tiny bit of romance, but mostly it's horror and mystery. It's my second favorite book ever. I can't recommend it enough.
