Calculating Acceleration help?
-
Ok, so the directions say "Calculate the acceleration of the train between 80 seconds and 110 seconds. Show all work for credit!" and I know that in order to find the acceleration of something you have to do FINAL VELOCITY-INITIAL VELOCITY/TIME so the final velocity of the train is 190 km/hr , the initial velocity is 100km/hr and the time is 30 seconds.I just dont get the whole converting thing with the seconds and the hours................

Answer:
km/h to m/s is divide by 3.6 because there are 3600 seconds in and hour and 1000 metres in a kilometre there fore its 3600/1000= 3.6

OK so you have dt = 30 seconds and dv = 90km/hr You can Ccnvert time to hours 30s x 1min/60s x 1hr/60 min = 30/3600 hrs or .00833hrs So dv/dt = 90/.00833 = 10804 km/hr^2 But if you need an answer in m/s convert the velocity. 90 km/hr x 1000m/km x hr/60 min x min/ 60 s = 25 m/s So dv/dt = 25/30 = .8333 m/s^2

190 - 100 = 90 make a table: 90 km | 1 hr | _ km ---------------------------------------… 1 hr | 3600 s| _ s where in the table you cancel the 1 hrs and then take the numbers on top divided by the numbers on bottom to get the final column. so 90/3600 km/s = 1/40 km/s. so ((1/40) km/s ) / (110 - 80)s = (1/40)/(30) km/s^2 = 1/1200 km/s^2 = 1000/1200 m/s^2 = .833 m/s^2 or .000833 km/s^2
