How does the shape of a cell effect the function of a cell?

For example, if a neuron is really long, it might be used in the central nervous system, but if a neuron is really short, it might be used in the peripheral nervous system. For a normal cell, every variation possible in a cell will somehow change its function. For example, a cell with many nucleuses is usually a muscle cell; a cell with a thicker lining may be used in the stomach.....i don't know if this helps very much, but basically there are heaps of different types of cells, and the shape always fits its function. the anatomy of a cell, and its physiology are inter-related. the cell can't do its function unless it's shape is proper, and the shape of a cell supports its function. hope it helps :)

example: sickle cell anemia changes the shape of the blood cells and what happens is the blood cell don't flow through the body as well because they are not round anymore. The cells shape does have effect on it's function. Really depends on what type of cell you are talking about.
