Which type of iron on transfer sheet works best for white and black tshirts?

I am making a tshirt design and I am sort of new to the whole "iron on transfer sheet" process and I was wondering if a dark colors transfer sheet (specifically for cark colored tshirts) will also work on a white tshirt. Also if you know of any place where I can buy cheep transfers like at Walmart etc. That would be GREAT! Thanks.
