How Can I tell my family I smoke cigarettes?

  • Okay, before we start, I KNOW THE RISKS AND FACTORS TO SMOKING. I know the causes and effects. I know what happens in the long run to most heavy smokers. Please don't start preaching by saying "Your going to die, quit!" and so on ... I will quit when I am good and ready .. but thanks for your care :) - - - I am 17 and 1/2 (18 in June, I will be a Legal Smoker), currently living in the United States - I want to tell my family that I am a smoker, I come from a family of smokers, Mom was a smoker (quit now) Dad is a smoker, Grandmothers are smokers, Ect... and much more of my family (on my dads said) They always tell me never to do it and that its not good, I have already picked up the habit and have been smoking since about 15 years old. I am not a heavy smoker, but I have been smoking more now, (I have my own car, I drive and smoke when im stressed) I can probably smoke a pack in a matter of a week. And when my cravings are on the higher side ... I will easily smoke a pack and a 1/2 a pack of Parliament Menthol Full Flavors ... I don't do drugs, drink, & have never smoked weed or any of that ... How should I tell my family? Thanks for your help guys, this is a serious question. Have a great upcoming weekend!

    they know already, it is very hard to hide the smell of smoke and the odds are that you have been caught without even knowing it. Your parents probably do not want to make hypocrites of themselves and further fuel your rebellious side. I am a Smoker and do not want to make a hypocrite of myself by telling you all the negative blah blah blah, but I will say that there are alternatives available to cigarettes and I will recommend at least trying an e-cig. If you like it, rather than simply telling your family that you smoke you can introduce them to the healthier alternative.

Personally i do not see why you should tell them. You obviously want to for your own selfish reasons, as it is something you want to get off of your chest. But telling them is just going to upset them, there isn't going to be any big initiation or approval, they are just going to be disappinted in you.

First of all, it's not a laughing matter. My stepfather was hospitalized for 5 weeks because his lungs were black with tar from smoking. He actually died for 3 minutes before the machine came back on so don't put "lol" at the end. I will not answer because I feel strongly against smoking. You lost your chance of getting an answer out of me when you decided to type "lol".
