How do you write a narration in a screenplay?
-
I'm writing a short screenplay and the opening scene begins with someone narrating while a montage of footage is happening. How would I write this? And whenever there is a new scene in the montage, do I need to make another heading where it says if it is "Interior" or "Exterior"? Please, I have not taken any film classes and only know the basics to screenwriting.

Answer:
Narration is written just like dialogue; the character's name is followed by the letters "V.O." which means "voice over." A montage is a self-contained series of shots; you don't put slug lines in montages.

Writing Narrative Narrative is everything that isn't dialogue. It includes descriptions of the characters, the locations, the images and actions we see, and the sounds we hear. It also sets mood, pace, and tone. Good narrative is active and lean.
