What is the last movie to get 8+ stars on imdb and why are so many movies low in stars?

  • I don't know if anyone has noticed, but almost every movie nowadays gets around 5/6 and rarely 7 stars. It seems movies that only get 7 stars or so even win oscars. The last high stars movie I think is the Batman "The Dark Knight" one and it got like 8 or 9 stars? While everything else is just really really low. Has the standards for making movies dropped or what? Every time I see a movie on the tv being previewed at the best action movie of this year or best comedy, etc. Always 6 or 7 stars. Why?

It's because the ratings on IMDB are pretty meaningless. They're user-generated and have no standard. They're just arbitrary, subjective ratings from everyone from your Aunt Susan to that little eight-year old down the street.

Every year, more and more people join imdb, younger people do also. I thought about this a couple of weeks ago, and I came to the conclusion that the more people who rate a movie, it gets a lower score. Alot of people change their ratings as time passed- examples being Harry Potter 7 and Avatar. Movies such as Inception and The Dark Knight's fanbase tend to be young imdb users, and that's why the scores are rather high.

i dont go by the stars ... there are lots of good movies whose rating is below 7 and 6 . IMDB is just d result of World's total people's mind . So it varies . There are people who dont like Shawshank and shindler's list and rated One star for those. u can c that . But regarding low ratings, most of the movie freaks rate very badly for Feel good movies , romantic comedy movies & comedy movies . They simply say its not up to our Level . So, just take IMDB as a reference for movies but not as a result deciding one.
