Who can teach me how to write a parabola equation?
-
Im doing my math homework but came across a problem. Im asked to write an equation given the vertex (1,2) and focus (6,2). I graphed what was given so i know that its turning to the right. And i know that part of the equation is y=a(x-1)^2+2. What i dont know how to find is A, can anybody please help me???? I'd really appreciate it!:)

Answer:
y=a(x-1)^2+2 The ending +2 moves the whole graph up 2, if is was negative it would move down 2. The ^2 mean it's a parabola shape and ^3 show a different kind of line. a show size and direction, the bigger a is the narrower the parabola. If A is positive it looks like a bowl, if it's negative it looks like an upside down bowl. The -1 and +2 are the x, y corrdinates of the vertex This might help http://www.csun.edu/~ayk38384/notes/mod11/Parabolas.html
