If there is this white spot under my nail that spreads from the bottom of my nail to about halfway up and there's a crack about 1/4 from the bottom of my nail up, do you know what this is or how it got there?

Answer:
White spots on the nail are called leukonychia and are very common. Most of the time the white spots simply are a sign of some past injury to the matrix (base) of your nails. By the time the white spot shows up (about six weeks after the injury), you've probably forgotten all about banging or knocking your fingers.
