  The word tithe means 10%. References from the Bible are: 1. Lev 27:30, 32-'A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.' This means that a tenth of everything your land produce (company produces, or what you make) belongs to God. Which then you have to ask, why do we give our money that we worked for to God? I mean he has everything right? 2. Psalms 24:1 says "1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;" So this means that that shirt on your back that you have, it isn't yours, it's God's shirt who has allowed you to wear it and buy it. He is so great that He supplies what you need, your food, your toothbrush, and your home. All He asks is for part of His money back so He can help others who are not as fortunate as yourself. I'm not going to say that you should tithe or not. But I am going to say that the Bible is correct. God will always provide. The first 2 chapters of Malachi says that the Priests were misusing the offerings, but still God says that we should give back the money to God even if the leaders are deceitful.
