Finding driver for woman in Redondo Beach/Torrance, California 90277
-
I must find a reliable, experienced female driver, age 43-60 yrs old, who will agree to provide up to 15 hours per week transportation within a 15 mile (+/-) radius of employer's home in the Hollywood Riviera neighborhood of Torrance, California, mailing address is in Redondo Beach. I request an answer to the following multi-part question: l) how to identify non-mainstream media channels to advertise postion; 2) names and phones/emails of senior citizen community agencies and relevant organizations (i.e., AARP chapter, Senior Network, referral agencies)in this locale who can be of assistance in identifying and recruiting prospective applicants for the position. I am not interested in subsidized transporation services such as group taxi or bus rides for senior citizens who are low-income. We are seeking a personal chauffeur/driver. The position will be advertised at a rate of no less than $12 dollars/hourly plus compensation for mileage. In sum, the essence of my question is how to market, advertise, and recruit an established female, age 43-60 yrs, experienced driver with own transportation available to provide 10-15 hours per week transportation service to elderly widowed woman in the Redondo Beach/Torrance neighborhood of Hollywood Riviera who is a well-educated retired teacher with excellent oral, written and cognitive functioning skills but who is no longer able to drive.

Answer:
Hello, ginibsantacruz-ga, I fully understand your desire to find a private driver for your mother. She sounds like a fascinating woman. I hope I can provide a similar service for my own mother or father if and when the need arises. It will be wonderful if you are able to find a trustworthy individual through a private advertisement. I have provided several Senior organizations and facilities in the Redondo Beach, Torrance and surrounding areas that may be able to provide some references or allow you to post an advertisement with them. I have also organized a few other advertising ideas that might prove fruitful. ============================================ SENIOR FACILITIES THAT MAY HELP IN REFERRALS ============================================ REDONDO BEACH SENIOR & FAMILY SERVICES ====================================== Serving the City of Redondo Beach 320 Knob Hill Avenue Redondo Beach, CA 90277 Tel: (310) 318-0650; Fax: (310) 316-6467 TDD: (310) 316-5699 http://www.redondo.org/depts/recreation/seniors_family/default.asp TORRANCE BARTLETT SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER ======================================== Serving the City of Torrance 1318 Cravens Avenue Torrance, CA 90501 Tel: (310) 320-5918; Fax: (310) 320-8533 http://www.tprd.torrnet.com/seniors.htm UCLA CENTER ON AGING ==================== 10945 Le Conte Avenue, Suite 3119 Los Angeles, CA 90095-6980 Phone: 310.794.0676 Fax: 310.794.0681 E-mail:[email protected] http://www.aging.ucla.edu/whoweare.html Erin Dominy, Administrative Assistant http://www.aging.ucla.edu/staff.html "As the Center's Administrative Assistant, Erin Dominy's responsibilities include handling inquiries regarding the Center's activities; administering the Pilot Research Grants, which offer funds to launch new research projects on aging; ** overseeing the production of the Senior Resource Directory, a comprehensive listing of services for older adults and caregivers in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica;** and managing memberships and tributes. Local medical facilities and churches are a few places women in that age range would frequent. Local libraries are another possibility for a job posting but I have not listed them here, as are local schools, where substitute or part-time teachers might be willing to take on a second part-time job. I have also included some community groups and local newspapers that are exclusive to the Redondo Beach/Torrance area and increase the likelihood of recruiting a local female who knows the area well. After going through the trials of hiring home care for her own mother, she also suggested that you might want to consider an agency or referral service to hire a bonded driver. Another helpful reference is the "Finding and Hiring In-Home Assistance Guide" which you might find useful in the interview and hiring process. http://www.a1aa.org/images/FindingandHiringAssistance.pdf === If I have left out areas that you think may be promising, please let me know and I will try to find further references. As I mentioned earlier, I also believe that local teachers (especially substitutes) might be interested in a part-time job, especially if it involves one of "their own."
