Do we need a daily multivitamin supplement?

Multivitamin Supplement

  • What is currently considered to be the best multivitamin supplement on the market today for males age 40 to 50 years old?

  • Answer:

People who think that there is no need for supplementation in the American diet are coming from a pretty ludicrous standpoint. The fact of the matter is that we, as Americentric individuals (by natural socialization) have been led to believe that our American diets are flawless and thus there is no need for further supplementation. Yeah, right! Quite the contrary, actually. I have just been diagnosed with a pretty severe disease, and due to this, I have taken it upon myself to do as much research as possible on the issue of nutrition and supplementation and have come to find out that my own "flawless American diet" has led me to the path of disease, which I am currently in the process of attempting to reverse. Here is some evidence that supports this: All you have to do is go to google.com and type in "diet role disease" and you will see the practically endless amount of articles written on the matter. ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=diet+role+disease Basically, traditional Western medicine wants us to believe that supplementation does NO good. This is a fallacy propogated by the medical industry because pharmeceutical companies are ridiculously in kahoots with doctors. Pharm. companies woo doctors daily into prescribing as MUCH as possible, even for diseases that don't HAVE a cure--because there are incentives invloved. If you are in any way skeptical of this, take a look at the van that a pharm. rep drives to doctors offices daily. And that is just what they give them before the doctors even do any prescribing!!!! Sorry for the tangent-y nature of this so far--it's just that reading the comment posted by brainminer-ga struck a special chord with me, considering what I have been dealing with, and considering that since supplementing my diet, I have felt MUCH MUCH MUCH better! :) On to supplements: True, there is no ONE definitive supplement that is going to give all of it to you, simply because some are in oil-based form and some are in water-based form, and they can't mix the two, though the two generally tend to mix well in our system aided by digestive enzymes such as amylase and protease. First, the "complete vitamin" and your best-bets-know that these are all formulated for middle-aged men. After about 55, that's when they start making special formulas. Otherwise, the following are made for you! :) 1. I do know that people tend to really like the "One-A-Day" series, and there is a formula made just for men called "Men's Health Formula." This can be purchased at any store that sells vitamins for about 20.00 (USD) It promotes healthy heart function-- and healthy prostate function-- by including the following key ingredients: selenium, zinc, calcium, vitamin C, niacin, and vitamin E. Also has lycopene, a cell protecting antioxidant,Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium and Vitamin C to help maintain normal blood pressure. This supplement is available for about 15.00 (USD) at most nutrition stores. If they dont carry, just request the vitamin and they'll order it happily. I went to bizrate.com and got their ratings for this topic. HEre are the results that you can skim through if you'd like: http://bizrate.lycos.com/buy/products__att256143--255327-,att295497--295502-,cat_id--150,rf--wgg.html If hair loss is not an issue for you, you can just skip through many of them which are specifically formulated with the balding man in mind. Now---my two cents! In addition to the multi-vitamin, you need to take a few other things to round off your quest for optimum health: a) one of the main things that our american diet is missing are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These are found in fish and dark leafy greens. Which we don't eat enough of. Make sure you take both....omega-6 is harder to find, but is found in flax seed oil in high high amounts. Crucial. b) digestive enzymes. Even if you are eating well, there is a good chance that your body is not metabolizing that which you are consuming properly. Pick up a multi digestive enzyme such as solaray's Super Digestaway. You WILL notice a difference within a few days!!! Please let me know if I can be of any other assistance---I know TOO much about this stuff now, and so it is my pleasure to help others with their needs!!! Thanks! Google Answers
