How do you clean a dirty anchor line?

As a general rule of thumb, the length of the rode (anchor line + chain) should be how many times the depth of water in which it will anchor?

  • Answer:

    7 to 1 is the "by the book" standard, 10 to 1 in foul weather. This number is open to a lot of interpretation. An all rope rode and a light anchor will need a lot more scope than an all chain rode.
