Help me fix MSN messenger please!!
-
Okay here is the deal. Every time I open up window's (MSN) messenger it freezes signing in down below on my active program icons (the small things listed in your bottom right hand corner of your computer screen.) It shows the little white/green guys going back and forth for a few seconds and then it just stops, in order to close it I have to hit "control alt delete" and end the msmsgs.exe (under processes) so the darn frozen program/icon will actually close. It used to work fine and now it started just doing this out of the blue! I have uninstalled and delted left over program files, then reinstalled from the windows website numerous times. My account is set to automatically sign in on the messenger, just in case you need to know. I'd try to go into Messenger trouble shooting but I can't even open the MSN messenger window to get to the preferences/help because it never pops up before freezing! Help me, I've had to resort to Trillian to use my windows messenger and it's making me go nuts!

Hi saradee-ga, Although you have not specified your Operating System, you did give us a clue by stating that you closed the msmsgs.exe file listed under {Processes}. Since the processes tab is not available under Windows 95/98/Me, I assume that you have Windows 2000/XP installed. A number of users using Windows XP have complained of Windows Messenger freezing up when they are set to login automatically. Most of the users have found that the problem is eliminated by uninstalling Windows Messenger and then installing it again. The following article provides you with step by step instructions to uninstall Windows Messenger : - How to Uninstall Windows Messenger from Windows XP ( http://messenger.jonathankay.com/allsteps.aspx?ID=7 ) After you remove Messenger, reboot. Now download the latest version of Windows Messenger and install it. You can get the latest version from : - .NET Messenger Service -- Start Download ( http://messenger.microsoft.com/download/download.asp?client=0 ) After you re-install messenger, your problem should be gone. :) If, however you are still experiencing this problem, please provide the following information : - Version of Windows you are running - Version of Windows/MSN Messenger you have. - Did you install any Windows Service Packs ? - Do you use the ZoneAlarm firewall or Norton Antivirus. If yes, which version ? Hopefully, the above information will help us work towards a solution. Hope this helps. If you need any clarifications, just ask! :)
