Why isn't my printer hooking up?

  • QUESTION: Hi Brad , I have been trying for the longes to hook up my brothers mfc 465n printer to my desktop computer and my laptop . I successfully hooked it up to my desktop that has xp pro on it. I have not had any luck with the laptop that has vista on it. The router is netgear, so I have the router and the printer hooked up and like I said the desktop is fine but I just cannot figure out the laptop. Please help if you can. If it is connected directly to the router do you know the IP address of the printer?     HI Marica Try this 1. Goto your control panel, Hardware and sound, Printers (or if it is in classic view just printers) 2. click add printer 3 Select local printer 4. Select create new port and select "standard TCP/IP port" 5 Enter the in host name IP address the IP address of your printer (10.0.0.2) 6. Hopefully vista will find the driver for you and install the printer if it doesn't .... 7 It should give you a list of printers if your printer is not listed click have disk and select the location where the printer drivers are usually a CD.
