Internet Explorer's "-history"--any way to make it more flexible?
-
Is there any way to have Internet Explorer's "history" display actually become useful--by including the time of access, rather than just date? And/or by permitting the poor user to sort by time and/or URL, etc.? I have a suspicion this is not possible, because Microsoft wouldn't be that helpful. But there's no harm asking. This issue is not a desperate one, since I use a great program called PowerMarks to keep track of bookmarks that really matter (it stores, sorts, and permits annotation, etc.). But I'm just curious. (P.S. This is part II. In an earlier question I asked how to make the history file stop disappearing, and larre-ga answered that well...(In my case, it turned out to be a matter of space allocation, which Microsoft has coyly managed to make an issue that the average user will never be aware of! Ha ha! That company is full of great practical jokers!) bbb

Terrific! I have several choices for you. SHAREWARE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AimAtSite Internet Explorer Toolbar (IE Toolbar) AimAtSite toolbar "...uses Microsoft Indexing Service to index the content of Web pages you are visiting to perform fast History and Favorites search. Unlike the built-in history search tool AimAtSite provides better performance, sorting by rank or title or date of visit, pages abstracts and flexible queries." Free Trial, $14.95 to Register AimAtSite http://www.aimingtech.com/aimatsite/home.htm WebTrack "WebTrack is a utility which indexes all the words on all the pages you visit. It's like a personal search engine for the web pages you view. WebTrack works independently of the browser, so if you use several browsers, WebTrack will create an index for all the pages you view with either browser. Besides the index, WebTrack offers you the possibility to annotate web pages and to keep a to-do list of webpages you want to revisit or you want to use the content of. WebTrack presents this functionality through a handy icon in the system tray." Free Download, $14.95 to Register WebTrack http://www.officefiler.com/webtrack/index.html FREEWARE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISYS Hindsite "Index and search previously visited web pages - without bookmarking them! You saw something on the web, but you can't remember where, and you didn't make a bookmark. ISYS:hindsite offers Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer users the unique ability to perform full text searches on the contents of previously accessed web pages." A friend of mine uses this utility. I was told the installation routine is one in which you definitely need to obey the "Exit all other Windows programs" directive. Beyond that, the program works as promised. Simple registration is required, but the program itself is free.
