On Arrested Development: how did Maybe get her name?

Give a Name to Management Consulting Firm

  • I need a name for my new management consulting business. I work with CEOs and VPs in West Coast high-tech hardware firms who are having difficulties in getting their organizations to deliver products to market in a timely and profitable way. I work with these executives and their product teams to plan and execute methods that not only get current products delivered, but also build the organization’s skills for future products. I also evaluate the company’s pipeline to make sure it is flowing future products at the right pace. I have a track record in my employment of delivering multi-million products above expectations and getting excellent business results. I pay attention to both the technical and the human sides of product development. I would like the name to be dignified and expressive of my company's function. I would prefer avoiding geographic references unless subtle. Typical products would be electronics, capital equipment, optical devices, instruments, or assemblies. I am a brand new consultant without my first paying client yet. I will be selling to top executives, so I need to be highly professional and "top of the line" in everything I do, particularly my branding. I am a woman, and do not want to use "Clarissa Doe Consulting" as my name. I am upfront in my marketing materials about the fact that my company has a single principal. However, I don't want that "Clarissa" name to be so prominent; 1) because it is a woman's name, and 2) because it is a highly feminine name, which does not seem to have the right image. My initials are SJO and I would be happy to use them if there is some way to incorporate them into a meaningful name. I would like a name that is fairly easy to spell and prononce, but it does NOT need to be a straight dictionary word or words. The name should NOT be ultra-generic - like "Management Consulting Inc." The name should accommodate expansion of my firm to include multiple associates. However, I am not sure that including "Associates" or "Group" right now would be legitimate, because I am the only consultant. I do have a loose network of experienced, established consultants and experienced contractors that I can pull in on specific large jobs. I offer a powerful guarantee on my services. I have a first class engineering education from the best schools, and nearly a dozen US patents awarded. A unique advantage I have over my competitors is that I bridge the technical and "soft side" worlds - I have the excellent engineering management credentials and analytical capabilities, as well as lots of people skills in training, coaching, communication, working together, etc. My firm name would ideally bring out this unique advantage. Since my preference will naturally always be subjective, the best response will contain many name ideas - at least 10, maybe 20-30.
